Car Review: 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche

Car Review: 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche - 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche adds a standard transfer case for 2-speed 4WD LTZ, body-color mirrors LS, which is available 20-inch chrome wheels and three new exterior colors: Steel Blue Metallic, Mocha and Steel Metallic Blaze Orange Metallic. -car review

ConsumerReports.org: 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche is a full-size truck equipment cabin with a cabin bed and unified. This allows an innovative partition can be folded to expand the landfill at the rear of the cabin. The ride is comfortable and quiet. The 5.3-liter V8 provides decent acceleration but is thirsty. There is a large blind zone defense. -car review

Professional: 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche moves and handles very well. It is comfortable and both my wife and I really like. There. In fact, this is our third avalanche.-car review

Consumer: There are two things about 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche: access to the truck bed is difficult for my wife because she is only 5 feet tall. Our Avalanche was the first step in a footprint in the bumper that you could use to help acessing back. The last two avalanches. Chevrolet needs to solve the problem. Ford, for example, has solved this problem with a folding ladder arrangement, which helps when the tailgate is down. Fuel consumption can be improved. -car review

Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf: Obama wants one million electric cars on the US road in 2015

Chevrolet-Volt
Chevrolet  Volt and Nissan Leaf: Obama wants one million electric cars on the US road in 2015; A Million Electric Vehicles: Back in January, during his State of the Union speech, President Obama said that he wanted the U.S. to “become the first country to have one million electric cars on the US road,” and he wanted it to happen by 2015. Given current sales of the Chevrolet  Volt and Nissan Leaf, the president may hit his target . . . sometime in 2064.

Nissan-Leaf

In May, U.S. car sales for the much-hyped Chevrolet Volt totaled 481. Nissan Leaf did better, with 1,142 units sold. That’s a grand total of 1,623 electric cars sold for the month. At that torrid rate, it will take about 639 months, or a bit more than 53 years, for domestic sales of electric cars to reach 1 million.

Obama wants electric cars by 2015, but 2064 is a more realistic estimate.

Chevrolet to plonk in a diesel engine in the Spark

Chevrolet has officially announced that the company will launch a diesel variant of the Beat very soon. Powered by a three cylinder version of the fabled 1.3 Fiat multijet engine, the new powerplant will be ultra-efficient. However, that’s not the end of the story when it comes to diesel powered Chevy small cars in India. The company wants to get super aggressive in the small car segment and will power its entry level Spark with the new diesel engine as well. The move will make the Spark the most economical and fuel efficient cars in the country to own and run. The Spark is an accomplished car, and a diesel engine will make it a fabulous option for value seekers in the small car segment.

Apart from putting in a diesel engine in the car, the American company also plans to put an 800cc petrol mill into the bonnet and position the car bang opposite the hot selling Alto. Even if Chevrolet manages to steal a small percentage of the Alto’s sales, it would be doing incredible volumes.

Company’s marketing head, P Balendran, told Wheelsunplugged in an interview that the company plans to launch six new models, and 14 fuel variants in the next two years. Of these, three will be from the Chinese SAIC stable. The company plans a new compact car, one sedan and a new version of the Captiva. A pickup van, a small SUV and an MUV are also on the cards.

Beat diesel spy pictures and details

These are the first pictures ever of the Chevrolet Beat diesel, to be launched in India by June 2011. The new car will be powered by a 3 cylinder version of the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine from Fiat which is also employed by Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki for the Indica Vista and the Swift respectively. The scaled down version, which would be manufactured under license from Fiat, will however be more fuel efficient than the 1.3 version. Christened TCDi in typical Chevrolet fashion, the new car will deliver decent power and torque for a city car.

The estimated figures for the power and torque output from the new engine are 56PS of power and 150Nm of torque. While the power output may sound to be slightly low, but the Beat is not a heavy car. Also, with its healthy torque, it should pull nicely in city traffic in low revs. The USP of the new engine will be its fuel efficiency, which can safely be expected to be the highest among the small cars in India. Expect a 20+ kmpl figure in the real world.

GM’s India head Karl Slym had said earlier, that he feels that a diesel engine can do wonders to the sales of the Beat. We would like to concur with him here. The Beat is the best value hatchback in the Indian market at this point, and a diesel engine will definitely boost its appeal enormously. If GM India manages to price the new Beat aggressively, which we are sure it will, there is ample reason for the likes of the Figo and the Swift to worry about.

Good going GM India, keep up the good work!

Chevrolet India is overwhelmed by the response it got from India over the past few years. With half a million cars running on Indian roads, the company emerged the sixth largest in India in 2010. Chevrolet India grew at 60 % last year while overall industry grew just 31%.

GM Indian President & M.D. Karl Slym seems to be very happy with this success and plans to introduce GM Luxury Car brand Cadillac in next couple of years here in India. After looking at the sales of luxury car brands like Mercedes, BMW & Audi which jumped around 70% sales ahead, launching a luxury brand like Cadillac seems less a risk.

With the range starting from 60-70 Lakh will it interest the Indian buyer who is infatuated by the BMW, Audi & Mercedes? Well time has the answer for that question, till then we wonder after this news how many Celebrities would go and book the Escalade.

Chevrolet to bring in the Camaro

Sure there is no dearth of performance cars in India with almost all the premium car makers having set shop in the country. However, there are not many options if someone wants to buy something classy and exclusive without having to spend a fortune on it. It seems GM India is planning to bring all those woes to an end now.
The company is planning to bring its iconic Camaro sports car to the country. The Camaro, along with the Ford Mustang is regarded as the ambassador of Amercian muscle cars. The muscular looking car will be brought to Indian first in the two-door coupe guise. GM India has displayed the car in the 2010 Auto Expo as well.

Although the price if the car or the launch date has not been unveiled yet, the arrival of the exotic on our shores is a surety. We are expecting a price in the region of Rs 30-35 lakh. And for a car of the Camaro’s size, presence and performance, that sounds like just a small price to pay.
Although it should, we are not sure whether the Camaro will do any great numbers in the country. However, the introduction of the legendary car will surely help Chevrolet create a premium image for itself.

Internationally the Camaro is available in LS and LT models, powered by a 3.6 L V6 producing 312 horses, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with manual shift. The there is the special SS version which is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 producing 426 hp and is mated to a 6-speed manual box.

Aveo CNG unveiled

GM was hit bad during the slump and most of you know what happened afterwards. But the brand shined in the developing markets like India, China etc. And now these 'key' markets require more attention and obviously GM is taking all the right steps.

They launched the LPG version of their Chevrolet Aveo sedan on 13th of this month. This important step was taken keeping the market trend and the competetion in mind. CNG is a cleaner fuel and is more economical than petrol. The same old 4-pot 1399 powerplant produces 94ps when run on petrol but a small drop in performance is expected. Mind it, as this is a factory CNG kit, the drop will be negligible. The CNG unit is computer controlled which means low wastage. The engine gets anodized pistons while the body and suspension are reinforced to welcome the introduction of CNG.

The car is priced at Rs. 6,26,645 (ex-showroom Ahmedabad), which is quite reasonable for a car that is greener and lighter on the pocket too.

Chevrolet to showcase 2011 Cruze RS

Chevrolet has announced that it will be showcasing its 2011 RS appearance package for the Cruze at the upcoming New York International Auto Show. The RS appearance package will be offered as an exterior option on the Cruze LS, LT and LTZ variants to potential buyers. With the RS package, the Cruze gets a more sporty and butch look in comparison to the plain model. The Cruze RS gets fog lamps, rocker panel extensions and a spoiler on the exterior. It will also feature an upgraded interior package including backlit instrument cluster and chrome accent rings.

As of now Chevrolet has not announced any plans of offering the RS appearance package as an option to potential buyers of the Cruze in India. Though we seriously hope that Chevrolet does offer the RS package as an option in India. This RS package seriously enhances the sporty appeal of the Cruze as evident from the pictures. The Cruze is already notching up numbers on the sales chart owing to its refreshing good looks and powerful diesel mill. This appearance package will further enhances the exterior appeal of the car, giving customers a reason to cheer about and bring one home.

Several cars to be phased out due to BS IV norms

The Bharat Stage IV (BS IV) emission norms will be applicable from the 1st of April, 2010. However, the entry of the BS IV norms has marked the exit of various old car models including the Skoda Octavia, Fabia (petrol) and Chevrolet Tavera. Maruti had taken the decision of not upgrading its Maruti 800 to suit the BS IV norms after which Skoda has decided to do the same for a few of its car models including the Octavia and Fabia (petrol). The Octavia’s 1.9 TDi Pumpe-Duse engine along with the Fabia petrol engine will be spared from being upgraded to the BS IV requirements making it face the similar fate of the once-legendary Maruti 800. These cars will now not be available in 13 cities across the country.

The Tavera from Chevrolet’s stable too is ready with its bags packed to bid good bye to all the BS IV cities. The MPV contender’s 2.5-litre diesel engine will not be upgraded by the firm to meet the BS IV requirements which will make the car unavailable in BS IV cities.

However, all the four cars mentioned above will be available in the showrooms of BS III cities across the country. Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Surat and Agra are a few amongst the cities which will bear the BS IV emission norms from the 1st of April.
