Car Review - 2011 Nissan Murano; The Nissan Murano 2011 is updated with a redesigned grille, new front bumper, new taillights and new 18-inch aluminum alloy. Inside the Murano adds new color and finish of the center console wood grain new Murano LE. The redesigned 2009 Murano, Nissan Murano 2011 has a nicer interior, standard ESC, and a more comfortable ride. Its 3.5-liter V6 is powerful and offers respectable fuel economy. The management remains flexible and secure. The interior is elegant and functional. However, limited rear visibility, and the premium fuel recommended major drawbacks. IIHS crash test results are impressive.

Paul Hagger: It's true that the Nissan Murano is a worthy competitor to the best-in-class small SUVs, but I was surprised to find it less sporty than its Infiniti FX35 cousin. The Murano has hints of trucklike ability. The tall sidewalls mean that it wallows a bit in the corners. The engine has the lazy throttle response of one tuned to pull a lot of weight, and you'll need to push the gas pedal down quite far when you want the Murano to accelerate briskly. The interior is definitely not trucklike, though. The seats are comfortable, the materials are very nice and there's plenty of space. The Nissan Murano should be on your short list, along with the Ford Edge and the Kia Sorrento. @car review

Nissan's Murano was one of the first crossover SUVs, and it continues to be one of the best at combining the attributes of an SUV with the driving dynamics of a sport sedan. Based on the same platform as the midsize Altima sedan, the Murano is balanced and responsive, making it a great all-around vehicle for practical, everyday use. Powered by Nissan's award-winning 3.5-liter V6 engine, the Murano has plenty of get-up-and-go, and the continuously variable transmission works well in this application. I also like the new design — it is fresh but remains true to the original — and the interior is well thought-out, skewing more upscale than the outgoing model. –Mike Meredith

Perry Stern: It can not be crazy about the look of the Murano, but it is one of the best five-passenger crossover on the market. The cargo area offers a wide range of public services, and the rear seat can actually handle three without feeling terribly close. And unlike many crosses, the Murano is really fun to drive. There are a lot of energy on tap, and continuously variable transmission is one of the best in the business, trying to keep the engine in the sweet spot for better performance. I do not expect the CVT would also improve fuel economy, but could not get my average over 18 mpg in mixed driving. The handling is difficult for a crossover, but with good management, so an excellent choice for Murano someone in the crossover market that needs a little more, but I do not want to go to a 7-seater model. @car review

Nissan produces 100,000 Micra cars in India

Nissan has produced 100,000 Micra cars in India. The employees of the company celebrated the occasion at the Renault Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai. The first Micra compact hatchback rolled off the production line in May 2010. Since then the workforce has expanded to nearly 4,000 (from an original 1,500) to meet demand from within India and across the world.

The 45-billion Rupee (990 Mn USD) facility is the first dedicated Renault-Nissan Alliance vehicle manufacturing plant, and the 4th generation of the Micra is the first model to be produced there. It will be joined later this year by the new Sunny sedan, and in 2012 a commercial vehicle will be added to the line-up as part of a joint venture with Ashok Leyland Ltd.

Since its launch in India last July the Nissan Micra has driven a sales boost within the market, with over 15,000 units sold to date. The Micra is also produced at plants in Thailand, Mexico and China.

Chennai, which will have an overall plant capacity of 400,000 units at full ramp up, will ultimately supply Micra to over 100 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. To date nearly 70,000 units have been shipped from the nearby Ennore deep water port.

Gilles Normand, Nissan Corporate Vice President for Africa, the Middle East and India, commented: “I would like to congratulate everyone associated with the Chennai plant on reaching what will be the first of many production milestones.

“The plant, which provides us with a skilled and localised production base, is a key part of our strategy for profitable and sustainable growth within India, and Micra’s success is only the first step in realising our potential within this market.

“Chennai is also crucial in terms of manufacturing high-volume, high-quality products for export to many world markets. With the continued strong support of the Tamil Nadu government, I hope that the facility will develop into one of Nissan’s most important production hubs.”

The UK automotive industry has received a significant boost as both BMW and Nissan have committed to the country's future manufacturing activity. Nissan will invest nearly £200 million in producing its latest Qashqai model at the company's Sunderland facility, while BMW has promised to inject £500 million into its UK manufacturing base.

Japanese car giant Nissan revealed that the latest Qashqai model will be designed and built in the UK, safeguarding 6,000 jobs in the process. At an estimated cost of £192m, the latest Qashqai will go through various stages of production; designed at Nissan’s European Design Centre in Paddington, London, engineered at its European technical centre in Bedfordshire, and built in Sunderland.

Meanwhile, BMW has promised to invest £500 million into its UK operation ensuring 5,000 jobs are protected. Over the next three years the money will go towards building the next generation Mini at BMW's Oxford facility. Engines manufactured at Hams Hall and stampings in Swindon will also receive a significant financial boost.

Nissan Motor India has announced a price increase on both petrol and diesel variants of the Micra by as much as 2% with effect from today. Percentages converted to rupees, the price increase will be in the range of Rs. 2,500 (0.5%) to Rs. 11,170 (2%).

While the prices of the locally manufactured Micra is being increased, the company left the prices for its CBU models like Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Teana and the Nissan 370Z untouched.

Commenting on the increase in prices of the Nissan Micra, Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, M.D. & CEO, Nissan Motor India said, “There has been a steady increase in the input cost over a period of time. It has come to a situation now that the price hike is inevitable and we have decided to increase the price of Micra.”

Nissan working on Alto and WagonR rivals for India

If you thought that the Micra is the end of Nissan’s small car story for India for now, you’re wrong. The company knows very well that the Indian market is all about small cars, and plans to launch two more small cars below the Micra to strengthen its product portfolio for India.

ACI reveals that Nissan plans to utilise the old Micra platform to cut down costs and prepare a  model which will compete with the likes of the WagonR and Santro. Codenamed K2, the new car is slated for a launch in late 2012 and would be priced in the region of Rs 3.5 lakh. Engine options will include the 1.2 litre three cylinder mill that powers the Micra as well as a new 1.0 litre engine which is expected to be very fuel efficient.

The car will be made for the Indian as well as the export market. There will be two versions, a short and a long wheelbase one. The LWb version will be sent out to export markets, while the SWB version will do duty here. There will also be an MPV version to cater to the Indonesian market.

Another car to hit our roads from the Nissan stable would be an even cheaper hatchback. Codenamed I2, the new car will take the challenge directly to the industry leading Alto. Tested by Defiance Testing and Engineering, a US company is owned by Ashok Leyland, which is a JV partner of Nissan in India. A major part of R&D for the Alto rival will be carried out in India, the price will be kept low at Rs 2.5 lakh and will be launched sometime in 2013.

The new sedan is slated to arrive to the Indian shores in the second half of the year 2011. The car will be manufactured at Nissan’s Oragadam, near Chennai.
The brand ‘Sunny’ has been there in the Chinese market since 2003 and was an important model to come out from Chinese Dongfeng and Japanese Nissan partnership. The car has been appreciated for its cabin space and driving performance.

The new car is powered by Nissan 1.5-liter HR15DE engine with dual injectors and a new-generation Xtronic CVT with an auxiliary transmission, both of which are newly introduced in China. (power, torque, fuel efficiency and other details coming in the next update)

Nissan to launch Micra diesel on 10th December

Nissan Motor India Private Ltd will be launching the diesel variant of the Micra on 10th of December. The function will be held at the company’s Ichibaan Nissan dealership at 2:15 in the afternoon. Kiminobu Tokuyama, ME and CEO, Nissan India along with Manoj Kumar, VP – Operations, Hover Automotive India will preside over the press meet.
