This is Maserati’s more focused version of its drop-top GranTurismo, the GranCabrio Sport.
Featuring at the Geneva motor show, the GranCabrio Sport is designed “to give the car a harder-edged model to sit alongside the GranTurismo S and the Quattroporte GT S,” according to Maserati.
The firm has issued few technical details, but it says the car gets a “more responsive” version of the GranCabrio’s 4.7-litre V8 powerplant. That could mean the car will get the same spec of motor as the 442bhp GranTurismo MC Stradale, because the regular GranCabrio already gets the more powerful version of the powerplant that’s also used in the GranTurismo S.
The GranCabrio Sport features ZF’s six-speed automatic transmission, tuned to the same software version as that used in the Quattroporte Sport GT S for faster shifts. The car’s Skyhook suspension system also gets an upgrade, along with the brake discs.
Visually the GranCabrio Sport gets a black grille and red accents in the Maserati Trident badge, revised headlights and body-coloured front-corner splitters and a new design of side skirts.
Maserati expects the GranCabrio Sport to arrive in the UK in September. Pricing has yet to be announced, but it could nudge £110k.
