New Car: 2013 Toyota iQ EV

Toyota’s tiny city car has just got even cleverer! The Japanese firm has confirmed that the electric iQ will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, ahead of being launched into the European market in 2012.

The electric iQ’s powertrain is based on Toyota’s experience in building its Hybrid Synergy Drive system as fitted to the Prius.

The car is based on the iQ, and retains its 3+1-seater layout and boot space thanks to a new flat lithium-ion battery pack which sits beneath the car’s floor. The battery gives a potential range of 65 miles.

Toyota has already announced its plans to bring the car to market in the USA and will be testing a fleet of the EVs in Europe for the rest of this year with a view to offering the car here from 2012.

The iQ EV prototype will be featured on the Toyota stand alongside the Yaris HSD hybrid, Prius+ MPV and the latest version of the firm’s FT-86 Concept II. For more details click here.
